Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA ) Yukiya Amano will arrive in the Iranian capital of Tehran late on Saturday to discuss issues related to the country’s peaceful nuclear program.
Amano is also scheduled to attend a hearing session of the Parliament Special Commission on JCPOA Sunday at 2 PM local time to inform Iranian MPs on the IAEA’s performance, inspections and vital responsibilities.
Head of the Parliament Special Commission for reviewing the JCPOA Alireza Zakani said on Tuesday that the Commission sought to invite Yukiya Amano for a hearing as "the Iranian lawmakers’ concerns about the IAEA inspections is due to the agency’s negative background in Iran and its leaking of many classified information in the past."
Meanwhile, the AEOI Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi rejected on Saturday the claims of certain international media that the visit of the IAEA chief was with the aim to gain support for interviewing Iranian nuclear scientists in a bid to probe into the alleged PMD issues of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program; “the aim of Amano’s visit to Tehran is to implement the Road-map for cooperation between Iran and the IAEA,” said Kamalvandi.
On July 14, Iran and the IAEA signed a road map regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear work in the Austrian capital city of Vienna. The agreement was reached on the same day Iran and the 5+1 group of countries finalized the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna.
On Wednesday, experts from Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog wrapped up a two-day session in Tehran, during which the Iranian team discussed the questions posed by the IAEA on September 8 with regard to Iran’s explanations. According to reports, all agreed activities including the expert meetings will continue until October 15.
